Dr. Javier Lizarrondo
Postdoctoral ResearcherAfter my Bachelor degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Basque Country University and a Master of Research in Biomedical and Molecular Sciences in King's College London, I did my PhD at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), as part of the Garcia-Alai team in the Structural Biology Unit in Hamburg, where I started working in the field of protein-membrane interactions.
Motivated by the advances in the field of in-situ structural biology, I joined the Wilfling and Dikic groups to work on membrane remodelling and protein-membrane interactions during autophagy, an essential cellular quality control process affected in several diseases.
As much as I love tiny molecular structures and their details, I also like to discuss scientific problems with colleagues from other fields, as different perspectives can often prove very useful to solve challenging scientific questions.
